Yes, the pizza was delicious!

Applewood never ceases to amaze...

Another movie in my never-ending quest to make people give up the idea of debt is called "In Debt We Trust". It's definitely worth seeing, though it doesn't have the heart-wrenching interviews that "Maxed Out " did, which, you know, was okay last night because I didn't feel like being too bummed out!

It's Thursday, which is one day closer to Friday, which usually means one of many things...

hoff-weasel-pants.jpg

Mostly it means that fun will be had, and sleep will happen early...

Wednesdays usually mean one thing...

Pizza. Pizza seems to magically happen on alternating Wednesdays and Thursdays.

jesus-pizza.jpg

Manna from Heaven, indeed. If I could only have one type of food for the rest of my life, it would be pizza.

Tonight, Nate and I are going to one of the best pizza places in Menlo Park, Applewood.
I don't know precisely why it's so grubbin', though I think the lovely, fluffy crust might be one thing - the beer might be another...

I hope everyone else is having a grubbin' Wednesday as well...

This fence thing has just gotten outta hand...

Last night I felt like I lived in the ghetto. Actually, I should say, it truly has become the epitome of living in the stereotype of a trailer park...last night, there were hooligans, hobos, and drama queens in a non-stop rotation through the gate....

amazing-trailer.jpg

There was weed-smokin', liquor drinking, music playing, car doors slamming, and general tomfoolery all around. I feel like I should call the police, but the Mt. View cops have other things to do than run hoodlums off a dead end street next to a trailer park,

cop-n-donut.jpg

On a happier note, I don't have to answer the phone, thank jeebus, so maybe now my skin will clear up and I can get down to the business of gettin' some serious work done!

Even the phones are happy i'm not answering them.

Non-Stop Party Weekend,

...and i'm beat. Sunday was going to be a day of rest and recuperation, but a last minute phone call turned it into this instead...

Saturday was go...

Saturday was jam-packed to the gills, and my Friday night was eventful enough that I didn't wake up until laaaate on Saturday, and had to get movin' and shakin'....

We had a couple of different agendas for Saturday, the first was up to the city to spend some time in the Mission district, there was some music to be picked up, and fences to photograph,

fenceinthemission.jpg

Then, it was a quick shot over to Berkeley, where we met up with Chip for some fat eats at Ben&Nicks...

benandnicks.jpg

The boys took off on their bikes and I had sleevage madness applied by Jason at FTW...

The night ended with a Mediterranean feast at La Mediterain (or however it's spelled) on Ashby, and then home for sleep, rest, and relaxation....

Not to be fussy about it...

But I dig Fridays...

cubicle-kitteh.jpg

This Friday rocks on so many levels, first, i've got a lot of work done this week, second, there will be tasty beverages had after work with some rad peeps from work, and third

Last.Day.Of.Phones.

Or as I lovingly call it, my "phone-doody." It's Friday, and while I only got hives once, i've broken out just like I was in High School again. Seriously. This morning I woke up and wanted to punch out that pimply teenager staring back at me from the mirror...i'm wearing enough foundation to support the Empire State building today...

phone-hatred.jpg

Ahhhhhhhh! Joy!

Well then,

There's a whole lotta conspiracy theories, and most are probably right...but the one that blew my mind the other day is a documentary called "Who Killed The Electric Car?".

I know the reason that our mass transit here in California sucks so badly is all the auto industries' fault, but this took it to a whole new level. A big F**k you goes out to GM, how much richer do they have to get?

evil-gm.jpg

Well, whatev's, I suppose it doesn't matter if we al elected to NOT drive. Oh wait. We're dependent on the car, never mind...dammit!

OH!! And before I forget...no it's still not fun to answer the phone...this Friday will be the best Friday ever...

Is there anything good with answering random phone calls? Colin Farrell wouldn't agree...

I saw the challenge taken...

We went to University Chicken last night, and we saw the challenge taken..the 911 challenge. Normally I would scoff at such challenges, but i've eaten their "Global Thermo Nuclear" wings, and they had me hurting for four days, and that was one wing. Here's what it looked like....

universitychicken2.jpg

university-chicken1.jpg

Yes, that kid will be hurting today....but he's young, they bounce.

It's Wednesday, and i'm beat. As usual, because I have to answer the phone this week, i'm sharing my misery. You can tell me to suck it up, to put on my big -girl panties, to quit bitchin' and moaning and hootin' and hollerin', but i'll just continue to share the love...

I like to think that Rob Zombie will lead the support group that i'll need to attend when this week is done...

I like it when the hobo leaves...

I get this giddy feeling of "Oh good! He's leaving leaving, maybe his job here is done, perhaps I don't have to see his twitchy fingers and shifty ways, oh joy!"

But I know, deep down, I can hope all I want, the hobo is here to stay. Sigh. At least until the fence gets built...

I made it through Monday, day one of five where I do the phone-answering thing...Now, you may ask, "what is so bad about answering a phone? Everyone does it, everyone has to do it, suck it up, sissy..."

Okay, look, when the phone rings, here's what I imagine is calling me...

bush-on-phone-after-tsunami-thumb.jpg

Scary enough, right? Ugh.

Structure, I like the structure of my day...it's why I seriously love my cubicle. There are people who fight the cubicles, but for many years, i've fought to get back to the cubicle. I feel like a content little gopher in my cubicle...I can just work and work and work and be content...except for the phones! Drat!

Monday...

It seems like no matter how much I cram into the weekend, when Monday comes around, there's still a bunch of stuff on my plate I never got around to.

There's so much still to do around the house, and just in general, ugh...
I had also planned to get a head start on a couple of work projects, yeah...that didn't happen either. That, and there was no real chance for a nice, long ride this weekend. Stella got a couple-few miles in , but that was all running errands. Sigh.

1044928860_svillagers.jpg

Today also starts my "phone week." Three hours a day, 15 hours this week...I already feel the hives. Irregardless, I'm holding forth hope that this week will slowly coalesce into a thing of radness, I've got no time for being bummed...

fixiegear.jpg

Posted On: July 20, 2008

It IS the best.hoodie.ever.

I got my ScotteVest hoodie and it is, indeed, the greatest hoodie ever made. Besides the fact that it has eleven hidden pockets, it's all fleecy and warm and soft and ultimate radness.

ultimate_hoodie.jpg

It fully allows for freedom from the tyranny of purses - I can dig it...

uglypurse.jpg

Last night Nate and I had to get all dressed up and go to a fancy restaurant - i've been on the board of directors for this consulting company since 2005, and I really don't do anything, so my resignation was "suggested" (i.e. - I was kicked out to make room for new, better people who actually work) but I got to have duck, drinks, and some crazy fried oysters...only in the Silicon Valley, my friend, only in the Silicon Valley...

No Sir, I didn't like it...

Phones are the bane of my existence - Some people do really, really well with telephones. I'm not one of those people. Oh yeah, I mean, I can talk on the phone when necessary, but I need fair warning.

icky-phones.jpg

I used to work in "Customer Support" as a phone-support person, and it was hell on earth. I literally broke out in hives everyday. I am shocked and appalled when I have to deal with rude/crazy/mean people. It takes a lot to get me angry - and I do mean a lot - but it was like living in a perpetual state of blinding rage. I'm a live-and-let-live kinda gal, and there's some kind of irrational thing that switches off in my brain when a phone rings...

telephone.jpg

I have a week to get through...a week of a ringing telephone. I've already done the breaking-out-in hives thing after one day. I only have a three hour shift each day for the next week, so think nice thoughts for me, would ya?

Walking a mile...

...or two or three, usually clears the mind quite well...

I've been a little out of it lately, spacey and what-not, but walking a few miles for pizza and beer for a Thursday night treat certainly helped...

pizza-slice-costume-500.jpg

This week has been a confuckulation of stuff and things that I have no interest in rehashing, I just know that Nate is my rock of radness, pizza is tasty, and beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy...

I got nothin'

Not a single witticism or scathing observation. I'm even bored with bitching about the hobo.

Let me clarify,

I got a couple-few emails from some worried souls...I call it the after-the-party-paranoia (Hey man, don't worry, i've done it too!)...I was too vague...

Teenage Love Triangles. Amaze, astound, and confuse me. (By teenage, we'll go into the early 20's.) Look, i'm old I forget the intensity of said relationships...I also think that there comes a point where my gracious and loving host's home was sorely disrespected and their hospitality trod all over as a result of said triangle. I think that should be less vague.

Aliens, I tell you...teenagers are aliens

Sleep makes everything better...

A good night's sleep makes me feel like i'm ready for a good day, it makes me feel like, I dunno...good times!

abba.jpg

You know what I mean?

It was a WTF??!!? kinda weekend...

This weekend was jampacked to the gills with a lot of stuff. A LOT of stuff...I'm so...astounded-confused-amazed...and in some instances even a little disgusted. I've learned the hard way how things get out of hand in some situations (i've been the bad guy and the victim - and neither are good...) and so now i've settled down to a life of chillness-sans-drama...and parties...well, parties are where i've learned to be the observant one.

drama_queen.jpg

I observed - a lot - this weekend. I'm trying to forget half of it because my brain will feel better if I do. The less said, the better. On a positive side, Nate and I got our groove on out on the dancefloor, and tasty margarita's and other assorted beverages were consumed. Sunday was a day of radness that started with breakfast at A Good Morning (best.diner.ever) with some good friends, and ended with a home cooked meal. There was stuff in-between that included some rehashing of the previous night's shenanigans, and i'm ready now to sleep and shove some of it way deep down in a sub-concious place where it can stay.

Another thing that started bugging....

Purses. Again, i've been in and out of love with the purse. An on-again-off-again kinda thing. When I took the plunge and decided to forgo driving for the bicycle, it was more necessary to have a backpack style bag....and now that i've simplified a lot of my life, I really don't even have to carry a lot around with me, and so...when I go out I usually just carry all my stuff with me in pockets

We went to Stanford (the outdoor mall, not the school) yesterday to pick up a birthday present, and what struck me were all the purses. All the ladies, (and some of the doods) had these ridiculous, enormous, purses. For some reason, it just bugged me. I tried to remember what I used to haul around with me when I carried a purse. Makeup. Keys. Sometimes a book. A camera. Other assorted junk and frivolity. Really, nothing I truly needed to carry. And so now, i'm anti-the purse. Hence, I now think it looks ridiculous when other people haul them around.

big-ass-purse.jpg

Yesterday, though, all was made right in the world. First, it's no secret that I have a penchant for the hoodie. So, yesterday I stumbled across THIS brilliant invention. A hoodie with 11 hidden pockets??!!!!?! Srsly?! I was so stoked that I threw my stingy ways aside and purchased one post-haste. My sincere hope is that it rocks as hard as I expect it to.

Good fences make good neighbors...

Bad fences let the trailer park meth-heads go in and out and in and out and in and out of the gate over and over and over and over - twenty four hours a day- to go buy Gatorade at the 7-Eleven and open and close the same car door over and over and over and over...hobo boy and his lady friend now have a NEW friend and they were in and out and in and out and in and out and back and forth from their cars and talking to a cat at 2 am, and then slamming a car door at 3 am, and then buying Gatorade at 8 am and now they're going in and out and in and out and in and out of the gate over and over and over and over.

tweekers-beware.jpg

Irritating to read, right? More irritating in person - over and over and over and over. Dooder has had a F**king kayak strapped to the top of his car for two weeks, not on a rack, just tied to the top of the car denting the roof and scratching the paint, and he doesn't go anywhere, just in and out and in and out and in and out of the gate over and over and over and over.

privacy_fence.jpg

The manager has told me that we'll be getting a brand, new, shiny fence with NO GATE soon, THANK YE GODS!!! It can't happen soon enough. I'm positive that the tweekers don't have enough strength or motivation to jump the fence. Plus, it would be really hard to do that with a huge bag full of Gatorade...

I want to know who invented high heels...

It has to have been someone who never has to wear them. Lord knows i've been through all kinds of phases during my life, and working in offices has lent itself to many a high-heels wearing phase, but they have never been comfortable. Ever.

crappy-heels.jpg

As i've gotten older and settled in my ways, i've made some important decisions, and one of them is that there is no way i'll wear high heels again if it is humanly possible to avoid doing so. Flats work just fine in dressy situations. With heels, there's the uncomfortable part, and then there's the limited mobility part. I like thinking i'll be able to, you know, beat up a ninja if one ever tried to attack me...I couldn't do that in heels. I'm just not that talented.

This is more my fashion template, but, you know, as a girl

hipster.jpg

And those that know me, know that the Pabst Tall-Boy usually is one of my weekend accoutrements, and not even in a deliberate ironic way, but a serious I-really-dig-Pabst-and-a-Tallboy-is-a-Dollar way.

Plus, you know, if you dig the Pabst Tallboys as I do (or Budweiser, or whatever your beer-in-a-can-du-jour is) then you know that heels and drunken revelry don't mix...it's hard enough to stumble around without them - why make life more difficult?

Stuff like this s just plain scary, can't we all just share the road, please?

Emergency room doctor arrested for allegedly cutting in front of bike riders, causing crash

Associated Press
Article Launched: 07/08/2008 09:35:18 PM PDT

"LOS ANGELES - An emergency room doctor was arrested after he allegedly swerved in front of two bicyclists during an argument over rights to the road and caused them to crash into his car, police said.

Christopher Thompson, 58, was arrested Friday for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon - the car - and booked into jail, Officer Ana Aguirre, a police spokeswoman, said Tuesday.

Thompson allegedly argued with the bikers who were crossing his path on a narrow road and pulled in front of them, slamming on the brakes, she said.

The bicyclists were taken to a hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.

Thompson posted $30,000 bail and is due in court Aug. 1, Aguirre said.

The district attorney's office is deciding whether to file charges.

Thompson, who is an emergency room doctor, could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday. Telephone calls placed to numbers listed for a Christopher Thompson in the neighborhood were not answered or rang busy.

Ron Peterson, one of the bikers, told KFI-AM he and another man were riding their bicycles when the driver sped past them and yelled something.

"It had to be road rage," Peterson alleged. "He barely missed me."

Peter Swarth, who said he was Thompson's attorney, said his client did not mean to hurt anyone.

"We deny there was any road rage incident," Swarth said. "It was a very unfortunate accident."

Swarth could not provide further details about the circumstances

leading to the crash."

He may not be able to provide details leading up to the crash...but I bet I know. As an emergency room doctor, he sees many, many disturbing things. But nothing could prepare him for the day he came home and his wife said, "look honey! I got a tattoo!"

hug_life.jpg

He's had it out for the cyclists ever since...

A mess of musings and a meandering of meaning...

Have you ever noticed how expensive it is to be a good, environmentally-friendly person? I mean, no, not the steps you take to consume less, drive less, live simply, etc. etc. , but I mean, to buy "eco-friendly" products?

I like to eat crappy food, mostly because it's cheap, but I decided I was going to go back to eating well, so:
Whole Foods? Not so good for a trailer park budget. Trader Joes is however, extremely good...but they always seem to run out of the stuff I want when i'm looking for it...

Makeup? Clothing? Bags? Shoes ? Anything with an "eco-friendly" or "sustainable" label=$$$$. So weird. I don't know if it's just because it is now an "it" think to be a quasi-hippie, but if i'm buying shoes made from old tires and milk cartons, please give me a little bit of a deal, here!

hippiesters.jpg

Ahh well, whatever...we all gotta eat. I guess it just comes down to where you want to spend your money to support what type of economy.

Life and Debt...

Have you ever cancelled a credit card? BOY...they sure as heck don't like that...the credit card companies, that is....they will try every trick in the book to make you feel like you're making a HUGE mistake.

I try to maintain a mellowness that can remain unruffled, but I was pushed to the on-the-phone-yelling point...I caught myself saying the stupidest phrase ever- very loud:- "LOOK, SIR, I'M BEING REALLY POLITE...
Yeaaahhhh....so, moving right along....if you want a cold dose of WTF, here it is my friends, here it is, (which means you should totes watch this film...) - life and debt.

Why no post on Sunday, you may ask? (...or, you know, not...) - Well, my Saturday was craptacular - consisting of dehydration, a fever, my car that never gets driven breaking down and all other sorts of tomfoolery...luckily I woke up refreshed and ready to attack Monday with fervor...

Partied out...

I'm officially old and partied out. The fireworks were amazing last night, and now i'm plum tuckered out.

Yesterday, I;

  • Had champagne out of a paper cup, because that's just how classy I am
  • Went swimming
  • Had barbeque
  • Eavesdropped on various bits of tomfoolery and intrigues
  • Got tipsy and talked shit
  • Saw fireworks
  • Came home and went to bed

Now i'm drinking coffee and waking up...three hours after officially getting out of bed. Today should be a day of riding, then rest, then more riding...but we shall see...

I like the days off and the party and stuff...

I like the three day weekend thing. Absolutely.

Holiday-days are always an interesting hodgepodge of conflicting things - things you want to do, things you have to do, and things you'd rather be doing - etc. Which I guess is actually kinda like everyday, but amplified on a holiday because there are other people involved.

Days like this, I just ask myself "What would Danzig do?"

It seems to clear up some of the indecision...

Meh...

I like to read the news, because it points out obvious stuff about why our economy right now is on the crapper and then makes it SHOCKING!!!. It also likes to make people feel like they're victims, like, everyone should be able to spend, spend, spend, and throw stuff away, and do whatever they like - damn the consequences! It's our RIGHT! - and then oh no! Debt!? Pollution?! Layoffs?!! NO FAIR!!!

"We learn as children that there is no free lunch, that you don't get something from nothing, that what goes up must come down, and so on."

apples.jpg

Right? Right. It will get worse before it gets better, but hopefully we're all more aware of our habits and the long term consequences...(yeah, I know, yadda-yadda-yadda...)

So, anyways, I caught this little article, and I thought it was one of the raddest things ever. Of course, first she has to have a friend that's cool with her bumming in the yard, and second, um, sewage?

News
Mon Jun 16, 6:03 PM ET

"Olympia, Washington: Dee Williams wanted a simpler, greener life -- so she built her dream house, an 84-square-foot cottage on wheels, which is currently parked in a friend's backyard. Not only did she save money using salvaged materials (the front door came from a dumpster, for instance), but the entire house is small enough to fit into a standard parking spot. Says Williams, 'Right now, there's nowhere else I want to be.'

Williams’ trailer cottage is surprisingly roomy inside, largely thanks to its clever use of height. For example, Williams’ bed is in a loft above her kitchen. Williams is proud to have fulfilled her goal of minimizing her ecological footprint. Her monthly heating bill is $6 and, thanks to solar panels, her electricity is free. Her approach goes against the national trend: Americans consume 40 percent of the world’s oil and 23 percent of its coal."

It's always rad when people opt for less, not more...

It's like a pacifists' dream come true...

I don't like confrontation or anger or anything, really, that could be construed as a bummer...and lately it seems like stuff is getting better as a result of the economy going to shit...

First, my old bike-nemesis, the SUV, is now roundly viewed as an evil, evil thing. Not only that, but today I ventured out and I swear that there was an equal number of people on bikes riding home from work as cars. Kick ass. Granted, Palo Alto/Mountain View have always been bike-friendly, but this was off-the-hook rad.

Second, rampant consumerism seems to be getting curbed, just a scosh...maybe just in the amount of Starbucks that will be around, at least according to this story.

Third, i'm now considered "smart" for living in a trailer park, as opposed to just "poor" or "trashy". Sweeeeeeeeet!!!!!

You don't get to have weekends like this all the time, you gotta just jump in with both feet...
